Streetwear Sizing: Why Fit Matters More Than Size
A size medium from one brand is a completely different garment from a size medium from another. Here's how to actually buy streetwear that fits.

The single biggest mistake people make buying streetwear, especially online, is trusting size labels. A medium from a US brand fits differently from a medium from a Japanese brand fits differently from a medium from a UK brand. And within any single brand, different silhouettes are designed to fit differently by design.
Understanding Intended Fit
The first question to ask when looking at any streetwear piece is: what is the intended fit? This isn't always obvious from the label and it's often not obvious from the product description.
Look at the imagery. How does it fit on the model? Is it oversized intentionally? Is it cropped? What's the sleeve length relative to the body? Are the trousers sitting high or low? Understanding the intended silhouette before you buy is essential.
Measure, Don't Guess
Most quality streetwear brands provide detailed size guides. Actually use them. Take your chest, shoulder, and sleeve measurements before you buy. Take your waist and inseam for trousers. This takes five minutes and will prevent the vast majority of fit problems.
A well-fitting outfit in a size large is infinitely better than an ill-fitting outfit in a size medium.
Oversized vs Oversized
"Oversized" is not a single thing. Some brands mean slightly relaxed, still structured, still shaped. Others mean genuinely large, designed to wear loose and low-shouldered. Others mean boxy, with a specific dropped-shoulder silhouette.
The difference between these looks completely different and involves different sizing strategies. An item designed for a genuine oversized fit might need to be sized down significantly compared to your usual size to achieve the right balance.
Trousers Are Their Own Problem
Streetwear trouser sizing is even less standardised than tops. Pay particular attention to rise, the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband. Low-rise and high-rise trousers wear completely differently. And the relationship between waist and thigh width varies enormously between brands.
The Return Reality
Always check return policies before buying, especially from brands you haven't bought from before. Even with perfect measurement work, fit can surprise you. A brand with a good return policy lets you buy with confidence.
