Olaplex Is £200 For The Full Routine. These UK Indie Brands Do It For Less
A complete Olaplex routine costs around £200. A complete UK indie hair routine costs less than half that and often performs just as well. Here are the British brands worth your money instead.

The Problem With Olaplex's Pricing
A complete Olaplex routine costs around £200. Shampoo at £49. Conditioner at £49. The No.3 mask at £28. The No.6 leave-in at £24. The No.7 oil at £28. The No.0 prep treatment at £28. That's before you've added their newer scalp serum at £41 or their lash and brow extensions at £64 each.
Olaplex is far from the only brand making bond-repair hair products. The category is now nearly a decade old. Patents have expired. Dozens of indie British labels have entered the space, formulating with cleaner ingredients, founder-led stories, and prices that don't ladder past £30 a bottle. Most of them never make it into Sephora or Boots.
This is a guide to what to look for if you want to spend less, support a UK indie, and probably get hair that's just as healthy.
If You Buy Olaplex For Bond Repair
Olaplex No.3 (£28) is the bond-repair flagship. The category it created is now full of indie alternatives doing similar things with different chemistry.
Look for British brands using plant-based bond builders instead of patented synthetics. Quinoa protein. Hydrolysed wheat protein. Marshmallow root. These ingredients are gentle, repeat-applicable, and don't carry the lilial baggage Olaplex spent two years trying to shake.
UK indies in this space tend to position around honesty rather than science marketing. The packaging is calmer. The ingredient lists are shorter. The price point sits between £15 and £25 for a bottle that lasts as long as Olaplex's £28 mask. Several of them sell directly through their own websites, which is part of why you've never seen them in Boots.
If You Buy Olaplex For Shine And Smoothness
Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother (£24.70) and No.7 Bonding Oil (£28) are the shine-and-frizz pair. This is one of the most competitive categories in beauty, and the UK independent scene has some of the best players in the world.
Bouclème, the London-based curl care brand, has been making leave-ins and creams for textured hair for over a decade. The brand is genuinely independent, formulates in the UK, and serves an audience that Olaplex (with one or two exceptions) has never really spoken to. Bottles sit around £15 to £20 each.
Afrocenchix, one of the longest-running UK indie afro-haircare brands, has been building a loyal community around clean ingredients for textured hair. Their hair oils and conditioners sit around £15 to £20.
Hair Syrup is a newer name on this list, a TikTok-led UK brand built around hair-growth oils. It got its audience by being honest about what hair oils can and cannot do. Bottles around £15.
These are not the only options. They are three you can confidently look at if Olaplex's £28 oil isn't going to make it onto your shelf.
If You Buy Olaplex For Scalp Health
Olaplex's No.0.5 Scalp Longevity Treatment (£41) is the brand's newest play, sitting in the fastest-growing corner of haircare: scalp serums.
Scalp care is also the corner where indie brands have the biggest head start. Major brands like Olaplex are arriving late to a category that small UK formulators have been working in for years. Look for brands using rosemary, peppermint, biotin, and salicylic acid. Look for brands run by trichologists or formulators who actually answer customer questions on Instagram. Look for the £20 to £30 price band, because anyone charging more than that for a 50ml scalp serum is paying for branding, not for what's in the bottle.
Dizziak, the London-based haircare brand founded around a single hero conditioner, has expanded carefully into a small, intentional range. Their products sit around £20 to £25.
There is a wider scene of indie scalp brands here that we will be featuring on Dripscan as we onboard them. The category is moving fast.
What Olaplex Has That Indies Don't
Two things, honestly.
First, distribution. Olaplex is everywhere. Boots, Sephora, Cult Beauty, salons. You can pick it up on a lunch break. UK indies usually require ordering direct from a website, which means a wait, which means most casual shoppers default back to Olaplex. That convenience tax is what most of Olaplex's pricing power actually buys you.
Second, branding consistency. The white bottles photograph well. The numbered range looks scientific. Indie packaging is more variable, sometimes brilliant and sometimes amateur. A first-time buyer takes a leap of faith on indie that they don't take on Olaplex.
Both of these are problems Dripscan was built to solve. Curated indie brands, one checkout, one returns policy, one place to find them. We are onboarding UK indie hair brands across 2026, and the magazine will keep updating as new names join.
The Honest Pitch
Olaplex isn't the enemy. It's a brand that did something genuinely innovative and got expensive. It also isn't the only good answer to your hair's problems anymore. The UK has a growing list of indie hair brands that match Olaplex on outcome, beat it on price, and outpace it on ingredient transparency.
Spend a Saturday looking at three or four of them instead of refilling your Olaplex bottles. You might not go back.
